1. What type of activities are involved in a My Gym class? My Gym classes are broken down into two categories: Parent-participation and Independent Classes. A typical parent-participation class consists of a combination of structured activities including: warm up, songs, dances, gymnastics skills, games, and puppet shows. In addition, the children will experience “swing time” and have plenty of “explore time” where they can use the gym equipment with the help of their parent or caregiver. A typical independent class consists of a combination of structured activities including: warm up, relays, gymnastics skills, sports skills, tumbling and games. The children also enjoy “explore time” where they can play on the gym equipment under the supervision of the staff. Practice & Play is a time when our facility is open to members for unstructured play. It is open to members of all ages and requires parental supervision at all times. Members who are currently enrolled in classes are encouraged to attend one hour of Practice & Play per week at no additional cost. Members who are not currently enrolled may join us for a small fee. Practice & Play times are subject to change from session to session. 3. Is there a viewing area for parents? My Gym has a large lobby area that is completely open to the gym floor. Parents/guardians are encouraged to observe the classes and encourage their children. Observers are able to see and hear everything that takes place in the gym. 4. Does my child need to be toilet trained to participate in the Independent Classes? It is preferred that all children in the Independent Programs are toilet trained before entering the program. A child may wear a pull-up if not fully trained. Parents who are concerned about their child having an accident should remain at the gym to assist their child in the bathroom if needed. We encourage parents to bring a change of clothes for their child if they anticipate that they may be needed. 5. What should my child wear to class? My gym classes do not require special attire. For safety reasons, all children are required to be BAREFOOT while on the carpeted gym floor. Adults who participate are required to wear socks while in the gym. Children should be dressed in comfortable clothing that allows for movement (i.e. T-shirt and pants). We discourage children wearing skirts/dresses as our programs involve tumbling, climbing, and hanging skills. 6. Can siblings participate in the class? There are no siblings allowed on the carpeted area during class. Only children enrolled in the class may participate. Classes at My Gym are designed to be developmentally-appropriate. For
children to benefit the most from our program, they should be placed in
a class which is intellectually, physically, and emotionally appropriate.
In most cases, this means that siblings who are different ages will not
participate together during classes. There are some exceptions: Families are encouraged to play together during our Free Play. 7. Can parents use video cameras during class? For privacy reasons, we do not allow the use of video cameras during our classes. Parents are welcome to take still photos of their children. 8. Do you accommodate children with special needs? Children with special needs can benefit greatly from the My Gym program and philosophy. Our unique class programs are designed in consultation with a team of doctors, occupational therapists, child development specialists, and early childhood experts. The benefits derived from the My Gym program go far beyond the physical. The thrill of accomplishment from achieving a physical task builds self-esteem and confidence that carry over into all aspects of a child’s life. A discussion with the parent will assist in placing a child in the appropriate class based on physical, social, and cognitive development. For safety reasons, a shadow/guide may be required to assist the child throughout the class. My Gym encourages doctors and therapists to visit our classes and to provide our instructors with written recommendations for individual children. Please contact My Gym at 905-780-7700 to arrange a free trial class. 9. What is the Membership Fee? The membership fee is a lifetime family fee that is applied upon your first enrollment. It is once per family, not per child. Upon becoming a member you will receive a Membership Package and you will be eligible for discounts on Birthday Parties, Camps, and invitations to our Special Events. 10. What happens if my child misses a class? For the health of our members we request that you please do not bring
sick children (or adults) to class. We have a generous make-up policy
to accommodate our families: Inclement Weather – It is very rare that My Gym will close or cancel classes due to inclement weather. However, if you are unsure if classes will be running call My Gym at 905-780-7700 and listen to the message for information on closures and cancellations for that day.
My Gym will provide a full refund if a request is made in writing at least 7 days prior to the beginning of the enrolled session. There will be no refunds within 7 days of the start of the enrolled session. Camp Days/Parent’s Night Out/Other Paid Events – refunds will not be issued for non-attendance of a scheduled Camp Day/Parent’s Night Out/Other Paid Event. Birthday Party Deposits are non-refundable. |
